In the late afternoon of the first Tuesday of the new academic year, the campus community attends the ceremony that is the official opening of the academic year - Convocation.
The Dean of Students leads the senior class in procession behind a bagpiper from Main Hall into Smith Theatre. The faculty, in full academic regalia, process into the theatre followed by the Presidential party to join the community - students, faculty, administrators and guests - in celebrating the beginning of a new academic year.
The College President and the Student Government President address the community before the Dean of the College presents three faculty awards.
A more recent addition to this traditional event is the premier of a short video that highlights community members and student life.
